"The Giant Wave"
83 inch x 48 inch -- 2.11 meter x 1.22 meter
Original work, acrylic on canvas
This piece signifies the immensity of emotion and how its power can either envelop one like a seismic sea swell or propel that same person on the ride of a lifetime.
The painting is reminiscent of the great wave pictured by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai who famously created the woodblock print of “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa.”

The process to finish this painting was unusual. The underpainting had been laying on the floor for days and I did not know how to resolve it. Until one day, I did an exercise to get rid of all the blockages inside of me. I pushed all that was on my mind and holding me back down into the earth (with my mind) and I let it burn inside the earth into a big fireball. Then I asked if from that deep point inside the earth, it could give me the material needed to finish this painting and have my body and soul filled up with it - whatever it was - so that I would be able to continue to paint and finish this work. To my great surprise the answer came and I felt completely filled up with... CRYSTAL! Unbelievably, revealed to me was the color of transparency and refracted glass. I started painting the sun rays in the ocean water, the foam of the wave and the pink-colored evening sunset in the background fully embracing the color of a crystal-clear rainbow.
