BIOGRAPHY
Painter and visual artist, Denise Marie Stoot, was born and raised in the Netherlands. She spent her formative years in the South of France and in Amsterdam where she earned her law degree. After receiving a masters in international tax law from Harvard University, she joined White & Case's Manhattan practice as an international corporate and tax attorney. While working on Wall Street, she found her gift for painting and began attending the renowned Art Students League of New York. She studied painting, mixed media and collage with American artists Ronnie Landfield, Bruce Dorfman and other seminal artists whose oeuvres included Lyrical Abstraction, assemblage art and mixed media. She also studied drawing at Central St. Martins, College of Art and Design in London.
In 2010, Denise left Wall Street to fulfill her calling of becoming a professional artist. She works with acrylic paint, paper collage and mixed media. Her mentor Ronnie Landfield found her brushwork and bold interpretation of color relating to works of Mark Rothko, Joan Mitchell, Hans Hoffman and Karel Appel. In her works, she employs a striking array of styles and techniques whilst offering an aesthetic that is colorful, complex and assured in its depth. The work breathes and pulsates beyond line, shape, and color stirring up emotional response such as excitement, wonder and contemplation. The conspicuousness of the work stems from the interplay between the immediacy of color and proportion with a structure and overall quality that demands prolonged attention.
Her work is included in private and corporate collections in the US and Saudi Arabia and has been on view in New York, Europe and the Middle East and at shows such as Art Hamptons, Art Aspen and the NY Affordable Art Fair.
