The Golden Series that I started earlier this year has now resulted in a short experiment that I will carry on toward the end of this year. I will challenge myself in making small paintings as opposed to the large one I am comfortable with. The process of layering and the spray paint I use requires me to spend still significant time on each of them. Yet, I would like to see what happens when I push myself to have a deadline. I believe it may let the mind move into a state of freedom and non attachment, which is just the right mindset to create fine art.
Each painting will be made on a 16" by 20" sized canvas and I hope to see either a progression in my process or a change in narrative by the end of 2019! It feels exciting to work on what I call 'Project Goldmine' - a reference to the origin of inspiration of the high mountains in Colorado where gold mining was prevalent and a referral to the essence of art making, which is a bit like gold mining. It is a continuous process of searching for a shape, a line, a form or a unique composition of an image in the hope of finding a piece of magic.. some new imagery that is inspirational and exhilarating, it is a search in the hope to find gold!
